Preseason Game 2: Raptors at Jazz!

How Hungry Are You?

(You might want to start tonight's song now)
  • Raptors pulled out the win on Saturday against the Trailblazers 122-104. Though for the most part it was a showcase of the benches. Lorenzo Brown looked great scoring 10 points in 15 minutes. His contract is only partially guaranteed for the upcoming season, but more performances like that might change that
  • OG Anunoby was excused from the game on Saturday and tonight due to a death in the family. We're thinking about him and his family in this tough time.
  • The Jazz are looking forward to a successful season in 2018-19. With the 21st pick in this year's draft they selected Grayson Allen from Duke, who impressed in their first preseason game where he sunk all 4 of his 3pt attempts. Donovan Mitchell, who lost out on Rookie of the Year to Ben Simmons will be their starting point guard and they still have Rudy Gobert, the reigning Defensive Player Of The Year.

Miles Davis - "So What"

Usually I try to pick a song who's artist or title shares a name with one of the teams or cities thats playing tonight. The Utah Jazz are a tough one....not many options there, same with San Antonio. At least the Jazz are named after a style of music, so I googled 'Best Jazz Songs' and chose the first that came up. I'm not surprised it's a Miles Davis jam

Tonight's Game Day Drink!

Rye & Coke

Yeah baybaybay!! Usually this is the drink I kick off the season with, but the first game was in Vancouver so I gave them a nod. Tonight is a whisky drink and a beaut!

Game 8: Raptors at Jazz!

I think we should all forget about that last game. It was ass. No one played well. Thankfully we have reached the last game of the dreaded West Coast Road Trip as the Raptors land in Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz

  • I love that picture of DeMar cramming it on Rudy Gobert. Such a devastating dunk on a dominating shot blocker. And Rudy Gobert has only gotten better
  • CJ Miles missed morning shoot around with the Raptors as he had flu-like symptoms. Apparently he will be a game time decision.
  • Utah's biggest loss this year so far has been Gordon Hayward who signed with the Boston Celtics this off season. Though Utah picked up Ricky Rubio, their up and coming star Dante Exum is out indefinitely after shoulder surgery and ISO Joe Johnson is also out with a sore wrist

Huggy Bear - "Herjazz"

What about the son of the guy who played Huggy Bear? No Startsky & Hutch just a punk group from Brighton (London) England composed of a relentless band of ladies. "Herjazz" was a single released in 1993. They performed this song on British television where there was an incident. Some biting was maybe involved? I dunno, but they would break up soon after in 1994.

Tonight's Game Day Drink!

Polygamy Porter

Isn't Utah a dry county or something? Not exactly, but they do have very stingy alcohol laws. That being said you can still find a few places to have a pint and watch the game. Like the Wasatch Brewpub in Park City, UT. Where you can settle in an enjoy a bottle or can of Polygamy Porter? Why have just one?

Game 35: Jazz at Raptors!

Thank EFF that road trip is gone and behind us. Sure the Raptors split it even at 3 wins and 3 losses, it's just that were some brutal and lethargic play out of most of the players. Hopefully some home cookin' is just what the doctor ordered as the Utah Jazz are in Toronto

  • Dwane Casey was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for December! It's well deserved as he Raptors went 10-4 and showed some grit and grind down the stretch
  • Patrick Patterson remains sidelined with a knee injury. He's been sorely missed as he brings communication on defense, energy on the boards and another 3 point threat for the Raptors. Jakob Poeltl continues to get playing time in his absence.
  • Only George Hill so far is listed out for The Jazz as he is going day-to-day with a concussion. Dante Exum, who didn't play in these 2 teams first meeting, will likely get the start

A Tribe Called Quest - "Jazz (We've got) Buggin' Out"

I'm pretty sure thats what this song is titled. Ah well, it's a classic from Q-Tip and the boys in A Tribe Called Quest. They recently reunited on Saturday Night Live when Dave Chappelle was hosting, but it was only Q-Tip & Ali Shaheed Muhammad as Phife Dawg passed away due to diabetes last March. They dedicated the performance to his memory

Game 29: Raptors at Jazz!!

Happy Holidays!! It's becoming an annual tradition that the Raptors go on a lengthy roadtrip around Christmas as their home the ACC is hosting the World Juniors Of Hockey this time of year. Raptors' first stop is Utah to take on the Jazz.

  • The Jazz are a different team from the one that the Raptors saw last year, and they beat us once last year. The Jazz have added a few significant pieces in Joe Johnson, former Spur Boris Diaw and point guard George Hill who the Raptors remember from the Indiana series last year
  • It seems Utah are dealing with some injuries as the aforementioned Hill is out tonight. Also on the sides will be Dante Exum and Alex Burks. Rodney Hood will be a game time decision with gastric distress....err gross.
  • There's talk of Jared Sullinger being seen without his walking boot lately, but that shouldn't be news to get too excited over. He's still estimated to be out for about a month, then fitting him into the current rotation will be a tough task for Coach Casey.

Emarosa - "Utah"

A hardcore band from Kentucky, Emarosa got their start in 2007 and after a few line-up and style changes began leaning more on the rock side of the genre. Their debut EP This Is Your Way Out was one of their only hardcore offerings and it's where you'll find tonight's Raptor Track "Utah"
